Fenton River Farm is a proud supporter of 4-H. We lease animals each year to 4-H kids in the Willington Willing Workers beef club. Each year, 4-H Beef team members dedicate the whole year to learning about all aspects of raising, feeding and showing a beef animal. They often go twice daily to feed, groom and train their animals. The animals are shown at several fairs around Connecticut and New England and end at the Eastern States Exposition. This program teaches the 4-Hers dedication, responsibility, knowledge of nutrition,  diseases and budgeting for animals. The kids will learn invaluable skills, information and create lasting friendships with other 4-Hers and leaders.

This year the Fenton River Farm 4-H animals did very well at the competitions. Our steer “Red” won several grand champion awards and the kids received a “judges choice award” for their outstanding hard work together.

At the Eastern States Exposition, we received grand champion lightweight steer and grand champion heavyweight steer. We also received third place in the carcass composition evaluating the quality of our meat.

The kids had a great show season this year and are very excited for next year. They have already started halter breaking the new calves and feeding at the farm daily. If you or anyone you know are interested in joining our 4-H beef club, contact us for more information!
